Story of Manufacture de Digoin

To start this new year on the right foot, let's go to Burgundy and the Manufacture de Digoin!
Histoires Françaises introduces you to this more than one hundred year old company and its incredible know-how of stoneware, a material with hardness and resistance properties very much appreciated, especially in the kitchen.
Located in Digoin, in the Saône et Loire region of France, since 1875, the Manufacture de Digoin has been developing collections for the table with very inspired shapes. Once a valley of ceramists, this part of Burgundy had more than 40 companies, each with its own speciality: bricks, tiles, or cement tiles. Today the Manufacture is the last guardian of the temple.

The rebirth of Digoin is the work of Corinne who decided to make her dream come true: to bring back to life this prestigious factory that was destined to close down. After a first career in a completely different field, she wished to embrace the life of an entrepreneur and to give life back to this beautiful sleeping place.

Today, with the help of a few passionate people like her, her innate sense of aesthetics and her boundless energy, she has succeeded in her challenge, to give back to Digoin its letters of nobility and to make us dream in front of so many beauties. The Manufacture of Digoin is labeled Living Heritage Company (EPV).

From the earth to the creation:
Step number 1 : the material. To begin, sand and water are mixed to create a paste worked in the form of logs and cakes. They will then be shaped into the desired form. Then comes the crucial step of firing to ensure strength and durability.

From hand to hand
It is hard to imagine that behind each piece is the hand of craftsmen with golden fingers! Thus, the coloring and finishing are always done by hand, which makes each creation unique and therefore precious. They are then marked with the seal of the Manufacture de Digoin.

Shapes and colors
From the archives, the most singular shapes are brought up to date. Each one is worked in a range of the most refined colors and always in this spirit of marrying yesterday, today! Each season Corinne carries out several dozen color tests until she has the shade she has in mind.

Digoin is therefore the story of a sleeping beauty awakened with passion by Corinne and her teams; collections that arouse emotion; it is the story of the earth worked by hand and for tomorrow, that of our heritage that tells with elegance a know-how, an art of living in the French way of life!
