The Sequoia bowl, hand turned in Picardy, is made of redwood and scalded beech. Majestic on a console or a chest of drawers in a hallway, it could also be a magnificent centerpiece.
This cup is a unique object.
The redwood is a mythical tree of the great American spaces. It is the giant guardian of the forests. Very protected, it is no longer possible to work it today. Benjamin was lucky enough to inherit a piece of redwood from a retired cabinetmaker who bought it when it was still possible. He then worked it by hand to give it the cup shape that forms the upper part of the bowl.
The beech is one of the main species of the French forests, it is even called "king of the forests". With the help of a fungus, nature does its work and gives it a unique vein pattern, like a piece of marble. This is what Benjamin chose to make the base. Each tree used was cut locally (Picardy) and selected by the workshop.
Wood turning is a delicate art: an art of tension, whose sensuality has nothing to envy to pottery turning. Because with a piece of wood thrown at more than 2000 revolutions per minute, any mistake can compromise the piece. Then it was is finished with a mixture of organic oils and wax.
