Charolles factory

176 years of history

Charolles is a French heritage institution, founded in 1844 by Hippolyte Prost in Burgundy. The company stands out for its top-of-the-range earthenware creations, whose authenticity is based on craftsmanship and unique glazing techniques, offering colorful and elegant creations. With over 150 exclusive shades, it has become a benchmark in high-quality French craftsmanship. The brand's current direction is underpinned by the creative vision of Aurélie Richard, artistic director since 2019, and Cyrille Frappé, owner of the company. Together, they have revitalized the collections by collaborating with contemporary designers and bringing their heritage to life. Objects such as the Cy lamp or the Glouglou carafe bear witness to the timeless style and modernity that Charolles seeks to infuse into its products. With the “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” (Living Heritage Company) label, Charolles continues its international expansion, establishing itself as a benchmark of excellence and finesse in French craftsmanship.

Production
Les faïences de Charolles is based on an artisanal production process, combining traditional methods and innovation. Each step is carried out by hand in their Burgundy workshop, using local, natural materials such as top-quality clays. Modeling, molding and enameling are techniques mastered by the faïencerie's craftsmen, guaranteeing unique finishes for each piece. Production is focused on limited series, with particular attention paid to enameling. Each color is specifically developed, often through in-house blending, and precisely applied before the final firing.

Sustainability
Charolles is committed to a sustainable approach, promoting environmentally-friendly craftsmanship based on local, manual production techniques. The workshop's craftsmen, true masters of their art, use mainly natural materials, such as local clays, without heavy industrial processes. What's more, the production cycle is designed to minimize waste and limit environmental impact. Aesthetic and technical choices include sustainably developed colors and finishes, in collaboration with a colorist to obtain specific shades while respecting traditional processing methods. Charolles also works with eco-designed materials, such as composite linen for certain fixtures, demonstrating a desire to combine tradition and sustainable innovation.

Inspiring themes every year
Each year, a collection is created around a particular theme. Inspired by nature and its vibrant colors, the brand's aesthetic identity is strengthened season after season. The Héritage Collection takes up the Manufacture's historic and iconic models. Inspired by the brand's artisan heritage, it features objects that have stood the test of time, such as the Mikado and Goutte vases. The Boréale Aurélie collection plays on rounded shapes and imposing volumes. This range focuses on an elegant, timeless aesthetic, with original contours and a textured surface that adds a unique dimension to each piece.

These themes reflect Charolles' commitment to exceptional craftsmanship and adaptation to current trends, while honoring the heritage of traditional French know-how.
